Quartz Crystals on Calcite - San Antonio Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico
Small delicate crystals of bright green fluorescing quartz are peppered around a matrix of calcite on this striking specimen. Not often we find quartz crystals fluorescing brightly like this. There are areas of dull blue fluorescence which is unknown. No response under MW or LW (perhaps a very dull green from the quartz under MW).
The San Antonio Mine is located near Chihuahua, Mexico, and is an underground operation that produces mainly sphalerite, galena and cassiterite. The region is part of the larger Mexican mining belt, which includes areas known for silver, gold, and other precious metals.
