This piece of gemmy, fluorescent sodalite is blindingly bright under all wavelengths, midwave, shortwave and longwave and deeply tenebrescent. It is the most interesting under midwave. There is an unknown whitish and blue mineral we haven’t seen before. Under midwave, you’ll see a striking violet mineral throughout the specimen adding a beautiful contrast to the green chkalovite. We think this is leucophanite. This piece is also slightly phosphorescent.

Under shortwave UV light, you can see small dots of silver polylithionite.

The sodalite on this piece changes color when exposed to shortwave UV, darkening to a grape purple (almost black) as shown in the GIF below - a unique hue compared to other Greenland sodalites. Under LW the bright orange fluorescence is unmistakable.

Fluorescent Green Agate from Scott's Gulf, Smryna, Tennessee

A major component of rock collecting (for us) is simply getting out in nature. A buddy dragged us out to a very remote area here in middle Tennessee to hunt for fluorescent green agate. Since we consider ourselves pure "Glow Hounds" we weren't anticipating any glow rocks, just the beauty of the area, but we brought our UV lights anyway.

Red sodalite is named for the color it takes on when exposed to sunlight; it is nicely tenebrescent under longwave UV. Under shortwave UV the color deepens, in seconds, to almost black in some areas.
