This bright green opal specimen consists of transparent, bubbly hyalite opal covering a matrix. The hyalite opal shows a bright green fluorescent response under both shortwave and longwave UV.

Trace amounts of uranyl are the reason for this bright green glow.

This specimen also displays "daylight fluorescence". Under indirect sunlight with the best results on a cloudy day, you’ll see a green fluorescence without the use of any UV lights (excluding the UV light from the sun).
